This Camp is for beginning and novice students new to Ableton and with some familiarity with this DAW. This camp takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 5 hours: 11am-4pm hours each day with a 30 min break. See Additional Info for comprehensive overview and computer requirements.
Course Description: The Introduction to Ableton Live Course is designed to provide beginners with a comprehensive overview of Ableton Live, one of the most popular digital audio workstations (DAWs) used for music production, composition, and live performance. Whether you're an aspiring music producer, electronic musician, or DJ, this course will equip you with the fundamental knowledge and skills to start creating music with Ableton Live.

Introduction to Ableton Live
Overview of Ableton Live's interface and workflow
Understanding session and arrangement views
Navigating the browser and working with projects
Audio and MIDI Fundamentals
Working with audio clips and samples
Recording and editing MIDI data
Understanding MIDI instruments and effects
Building and Manipulating Beats
Creating drum patterns and loops
Using Ableton's built-in drum racks
Exploring drum programming techniques
Introduction to Synthesis and Sampling
Understanding synthesizers and sound design concepts
Working with Ableton's built-in instruments and effects
Sampling techniques and manipulation
Arrangement and Composition
Structuring a song using clips and scenes
Applying arrangement view techniques
Developing musical ideas and arranging sections
Mixing and Audio Effects
Introduction to audio mixing principles
Using Ableton's audio effects to shape and enhance sounds
Applying automation and modulation
Introduction to Live Performance

Course Requirements:
A computer with Ableton Live installed (free trial or full version)
Basic understanding of music theory (recommended but not required)
Headphones monitoring audio
Access to the internet for course materials and resources
By the end of this course, you will have gained a solid foundation in using Ableton Live for music production and performance. You'll be able to confidently create your own tracks, manipulate sounds, and understand the core concepts and techniques used in Ableton Live.
Meet Your Instructor
Matthew Engst is a Pop and Hip-Hop producer, songwriter and synth enthusiast from Vancouver, Canada and now resides in Los Angeles. In 2004, he was signed to Warner Chappell Sweden with his electro pop duo, Killabite. Their first single entitled, ‘Follow Me Home,’ was co-written by Swedish producers, Axwell (Swedish House Mafia) and Alexander Kronlund (co-wrote Britney Spears hit singles, ‘Lucky’ and ‘Til The World Ends.’). The song had success in Europe with radio play and tours throughout Scandinavia.
While working in Sweden, Matthew had the opportunity to work with legendary producers, Max Martin and Shellback and still works closely with them to this day. Most recently with the release of MXM’s (Max Martin’s Publishing company) new hip-hop artist, Daye Jack.
